Southend Stop The War on the March!

Southend Stop the War supporters joined the national demonstration in London on Saturday 24th October to demand 'Troops Out of Afghanistan'.

We were amongst thousands led by Lance Corporal Joe Glenton who currently faces a court martial for refusing to return to Afghanistan. These pictures are of our banner on the march and of the head of the demonstration, showing Joe and also Peter Brierley, whose son Shaun was killed in Iraq. Peter, who spoke in Leigh-on-Sea a few years ago, confronted Tony Blair at a recent Iraq war memorial service in London.

We will be showing a short film, 'Imperial Intervention and Resistance in Afghanistan' which is written and presented by John Rees of the Stop the War Coalition.
There will also be a speaker from the national Stop The War office to bring us up to date with the campaign for withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Join us for 'Naming the Dead', petitioning and leafleting aginst the war in Afghanistan.

Naming the Dead

Southend Stop the War Coalition asks all supporters to join us for a 'Naming the Dead' ceremony on the Saturday after the dreadful total of 200 British troops killed in Afghanistan is reached.
We will be joining other groups across the country in remembering all those who have lost their lives since the occupation began in 2001.

Join us from 12 noon in Southend High Street, by the Millennium Clock (near W H Smiths).

We will be reading names of the dead but also continuing to gather signatures on the national petition calling on the government to bring all British troops home now
